ABOUT LATITUDE ZERO

Resort Latitude Zero is located in Sumatra’s beautiful Telo Islands.  The resort is set on its own island and MOTE has exclusive use of the entire island  . The headland where the resort sits has a beautiful sandy beach lapped by clear, calm, aqua-toned waters with no offshore fringing reef, making it perfect for boat access, swimming and relaxing.

For full details on the resort check out www.resortlatitudezero.com

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation consists of two pole construction Queenslander style houses. Each house has eight rooms that can be configured as twin share or double. Between the two houses is an open kitchen and gazebo area overlooking the in-ground swimming pool. The houses overlook the beach with 270 degree water views. Full details of the accommodation and amenities can be found at

ACTIVITIES

swim

The Telos Island chain is located on the equator and spans an area of around 50 nautical miles. It is a paradise for surfers with over 40 quality waves accessible by at most a short speedboat ride from the resort. The variety ensures that there is something for everybody from the beginner to the professional.

Non surfers will find plenty to do also. Options include snorkeling, swimming, boating, exploring other islands, scuba diving and general relaxation. The truly decadent could find a small nearby deserted island to explore followed by a glass or two of wine as the sun sets. Please note that scuba divers will need to be certified as there is no capacity for teaching people to dive.   Tanks and weights can be arranged but certified divers will need to bring the rest of their equipment with them.

We will also have access to a 60 foot Pinis Yacht which opens up the possibilities of day sails, afternoon cocktail cruises and perhaps  even conducting some of our education sessions on the water. Closer to the date and depending on numbers we will look at the option of an overnight excursion on the yacht.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

The entry and exit point to reach the Telos Islands is Padang the capital of western Sumatra. You will need to make your own arrangements to reach Padang. If you wish to utilise our travel service please contact us and we can assist you in organising international flights. Of course you are welcome to use your own travel agent or even arrange this via the internet.

The best way to get to Padang is either via Kuala Lumpur or Jakarta. Currently there are no direct flights from Singapore to Padang. Overall for those flying from Australia there would appear to be greater flexibility in terms of flight availability through Jakarta. We will be utilising 2 charter flights from Padang to the islands on the 2nd September. You will, therefore, need to arrive in Padang on the 1st September and overnight there.

As you would appreciate in this part of the world space on charter flights and luggage capacity are limited. Therefore, the Latitude Zero yacht Nomad will be based in Padang on the 1st September. All your boards and big bags will be loaded onto the yacht which will sail overnight back to Latitude Zero leaving you to travel on the charter flights with just your daypack.  There is also the option for up to 8 people to  travel on Nomad which offers the opportunity of a pleasantly relaxed start to your trip. For those wishing to travel on Nomad space will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please note that the trip on Nomad will take approximately 14 hours.  Please also note that Nomad will not leave until all delegates have arrived in Padang and their boards, etc have been loaded. Therefore, we would ask that when making your travel arrangements you plan to arrive in Padang NO LATER than 16:00 on Saturday the 1st September.

Nomad

On the way home we will reach Padang on the 9th September from where you can make your way home or on to even more adventures. Charter flights will depart for Padang at approximately 08:00 and 10:00 on Sunday. Nomad will again sail over the night before with boards and bags and any delegates that wish one last adventure. It is intended that boards and bags will arrive at Padang airport at around midday. Please plan your ongoing flights from Padang no earlier than 15:00 in case of any delays. If you do need to exit on an earlier flight please contact us to discuss it before finalising your booking.

DIVING AT LATITUDE ZERO

Latitude Zero is predominantly a surf resort and so is not developed for diving. indeed MOTE appears to be the first group to have expressed an interest in this regard. We undertook a few exploratory dives this year and have identified a few locations for some enjoyable dives including a great shore dive off the island itself which by all accounts we were the first to explore. You must be a certified diver and have a reasonable degree of experience to dive here as there are no formal dive guides or instructors. We have been looking at the charts and have identified some more places worth exploring next year.

Although some gear can be hired in Padang it is not of great quality. It would be best to bring your own BCD and Regulator. We will provide weights, tanks and a compressor on the island itself.
